Case Study
Scooby Snax Stack Attack

John McNeill, owner of Scooby Snax, a busy seaside fish & chip shop in Brightlingsea, Essex recently trialled the Stack Attack menu from Moy Park Foodservice. Capitalising on the current trend of stacking burgers, seen in high-street burger chains, the menu aims to provide fish & chip shops with an opportunity to increase profits, attract new customers and drive burger sales.

In contention for Fish & Chip Shop of the Year for the second consecutive year, John has been running Scooby Snax for 4½ years, offering his customers everything from breakfasts to traditional fish and chips, with healthier alternatives such as baked potatoes with a grilled fish option. "In order to run a successful fish & chip shop, you need to move with the times and expand your menu to suit the needs of your customer. Competition is stiff in the town, with nine other food outlets, so we like to keep our menu fresh and up-to-date with the latest developments" he explains.

During the Stack Attack trial, John offered his customers the choice of three Moy Park Foodservice burgers - Chickwich Steak Burger, Falafel Burger and Spicy Bean Burger, with three tasty Stacker options of Battered Natural Onion Rings, Cajun Breaded Mushroom Boats and Tempura Mixed Vegetables. The menu gives customers the opportunity to personalise their chosen burger with a choice of one, two or all three Stackers - named the Ultimate Burger - providing great perceived added-value.

John comments: "I really liked the 'Stack Attack' concept, the burgers looked really impressive and the Moy Park Foodservice products are of a high quality, which our customers really enjoyed. We sold 32 burgers over the course of the trial, with the Chickwich Steak Burger and Onion Rings combination being the most popular, followed closely by the Chickwich Steak Burger and Cajun Mushroom Boats."

"This trial went down particularly well with teens from the local school, probably because they are used to seeing it in the high street. The menu offers a variety of options and different flavours which customers enjoy, and it's always good to offer a selection."

John's top tips to other fish & chip shops wanting to capitalise on the 'Stack Attack' burger trend are:
  • Use quality products like those available from Moy Park Foodservice
  • Offer value-for-money with delicious stacking options - customers enjoy personalising their food
  • Be consistent with quality and presentation to ensure repeat trade
  • Promote your menu with eye-catching POS to make it stand out
