STARTERS AND SOUPS
The Food Standards Agency carried out a survey of 3,513 adults, in 2007* which revealed that 2% of respondents were found to be “completely vegetarian” and an additional 7% “partly vegetarian”.
Coupled with the fact that, according to the Vegetarian Society, a typical vegetarian diet closely matches expert dietary recommendations for healthy eating, being low in saturated fat and high in fibre, complex carbohydrates and fresh fruit and vegetables, and that consumers are more and more tending towards healthier options on menus, catering operators should give consideration to the entire menu offering by including more original and interesting starters, as well as meat free main courses.
Start with a NEW range
Moy Park Foodservice, devoted to the creation of products
which provide solutions for caterers and are innovative, has
just launched a NEW range of meat free items,
ideal for inclusion on your menu as either a starter or indeed,
a sharing platter. All products are approved by the Vegetarian
Society, are quick and simple to prepare and will appeal to
consumers of all ages.
Try an eastern inspired starter of Falafel, which is quickly deep fried in 3 minutes and made using a delicious blend of Chick Peas, Garlic, Coriander and Cumin; great served as part of a Mezze or simply garnished with a Tomato, Parsley and Mint Salad, drizzled with Tahini. Both the Carrot and Coriander Goujons and Spinach and Feta Goujons are prepared by either oven baking, deep frying or shallow frying and are coated in a crispy breadcrumb for a tasty, crunchy texture. Try serving with a selection of dips and a side of fresh leaves.
To further enhance your starter offering, you can create your own professional, bespoke, mouth-watering menus in minutes on the Moy Park Foodservice website. It has never been easier and it’s absolutely FREE!
